Miao Hmong handwoven heavy hemp pleated skirt runner black off-white stripe vintage ethnic tribal fabric VC40
Incredible and beautiful Hmong STILL PLEATED handwoven hemp roll. This is a mesmerizing object in itself and a testament to antique ethnic minority methods. The hemp threads are quite thick and robust and the material dense...and unused!
I cannot be sure there are neither stains nor holes, and for the record, I am not claiming it is blemish free. In fact, some surface stains can be seen in the photos which surely must have occurred with the material in its pleated state. I have not tried to clean it and the stains may indeed come off easily. Being that they are on the raised edges of the pleats, they will be less concentrated and noticeable with the material opened and in an unpleated state.
Of course, because the material was handwoven in a village environment, some aberrations and anomalies in the weaving are to be expected. It is not a machine-made object.
The color is warm beige/off-white natural unbleached hemp with black stripes in organic vegetable dye.
The pleated dimensions are about 51 inches in length x 12 inches in width. Unpleated and ironed, I estimate the length to be close to 27 feet, based on lengths of unpleated and ironed Hmong hemp I have of similar weave, width, and weight.
