Sumba Ikat tribal tapestry blue red purple white cotton throw ethnic ikat cloth indigo blue Indonesian boho home decor handwoven cotton skirt sarong tapestry fabric CD19
This textile is formed by two back-strap-loomed narrow panels joined in the middle with a hand-sewn stitch. Note that the sewing connecting the two sections is quite loose and minimal, more of a baste stitch than anything else. If you intend to separate them than it's not a problem. Or hanging on a wall. But if you intend to handle the tapestry you might prefer me to run a better stitch up the middle...however it will be with a sewing machine. Note that the woven bands on each end slightly cinch the tapestry resulting in a slight "buckle" or curving at each end.
Ikat is a time intensive method of creating patterns on fabric by tying off the yarn prior to weaving and dyeing. When dipped in the color, the dye colors the yarn except for the part that is tied off, which remains the original color. When the yarns are woven, these areas create the pattern. Multiple color ikats require multiple tyings and dyeings. The technique is originally from Indonesia.
Some slight imperfections in the weaving and color are normal in these handmade textiles and to be expected.
The dimensions are 84 in x 38 in without the fringe. New condition.
