Screaming, handwoven, Indonesian Ikat tapestry from Sumba, boho home decor, tribal cotton throw, ethnic cotton sarong tapestry fabric EW12
This textile is formed by two back-strap-loomed panels joined in the middle with a simple hand-sewn stitch. Woven, supplementary weft bands and tassels on each end finish the blanket with a slight narrowing effect.
Ikat is a time intensive method of creating patterns on fabric by tying off the yarn prior to weaving and dyeing. When dipped in the color, the dye colors the yarn except for the part that is tied off, which remains the original color. When the yarns are woven, these areas create the pattern. Multiple color ikats require multiple tyings and dyeings. The technique is originally from Indonesia.
This is a new, hand loomed, 100% cotton textile in bright orange with pale orange design elements. It is thick and sturdy with a ribbed hand-feel. Being hand-loomed ikat designs, expect some aberrations and anomalies in the weave and coloring (note the last two photos that show some dark "ghosts"). RAW....as we like it!
The dimensions are 82 in x 35 in without the fringe. The cotton border is narrower than the rest of the textile, as seen in the photos.
