Ikat tribal tapestry, indigo, orange & gray geometric pattern runner, Laos Tai Lue boho ethnic home decor, handwoven cotton skirt sarong Asian fabric PM141
Absolutely riveting hand loomed, cotton textile in traditional Laos ikat designs in gray and black on indigo blue with warm gray borders. This item's original use was as a wrap around skirt or sarong for traditional-dressing Laos women thus the designs are often not centered on the textile.
Ikat is a time intensive method of creating patterns on fabric by tying off the yarn prior to weaving and dyeing. When dipped in the color, the dye colors the yarn except for the part that is tied off, which remains the original color. When the yarns are woven, these areas create the pattern. Multiple color ikats require multiple tyings and dyeings. The technique is originally from Indonesia.
Some slight imperfections in the weaving, color, and design are normal in these handmade textiles.
The dimensions are 74 x 30 in. New condition. Both ends have been over-locked/hemmed to prevent unraveling.
