Ikat indigo handwoven ethnic cotton textile, ethnic pattern blanket, dark blue matmii fabric from Laos Thailand Southeast Asia Apr28.
Mesmerizing matmii or ikat traditional Laos and Northeastern Thailand designs in a thick and sturdy skirt/textile/fabric. The weft, or thicker horizontal indigo/navy threads on which the ikat designs were made are cotton. The warp or thinner darker vertical support threads are polyester. You can see them poking out of the bottom and top of the fabric and they give the black contrast against the blue to make the subtle rhombus pattern of the weave. Polyester is utilized for the warp to add strength to a textile, and to prevent shrinking and warping while cotton is used for its softness and touch against the body. In fact, it is only the cotton that comes into contact with the body as the polyester is buried in the thicker cotton yarn.
This textile was produced destined to be used as a skirt and explains the off-center placement of the ikat design. An unbleached natural cotton border has been added at the top or waist area and the length of textile has been closed on both ends to form a cylinder. These seams can be quickly and easily taken out if you prefer the textile "runner" style and without the cream cotton border. I can do this for you prior to shipping if you would like.
The back and front of the material are indistinguishable from each other meaning that both sides can be utilized.
The dimensions of the indigo material only (without the cream cotton waist) are 30 in. x 34 in. The circumference is 68 in. The cream cotton waistband is 10.5 in. in height. The weight of the textile is about 11.6 oz/430 grams.
