Thai textile from Hmong/Miao ethnic group, indigo and white batik fabric, dark blue table runner, vintage hemp tribal textile EC55

This fabric is a handwoven natural hemp whose original intent was at the bottom of a traditional skirt from the Hmong or Miao ethnic group. It is a thick, rustic, dense weave.

The front side of the fabric has the wonderful and mysterious graphic pattern made using the wax resist process. The wax for this pattern was applied with a light touch and therefore only affected the front side of the fabric. The wide, white stripe on the one edge was made using a much heavier application of wax and is visible on both sides of the fabric. The back side reminds me a bit of a Mark Rothko painting. Fantastic in its simplicity.

The dimensions are 308 inches (8.6 yds) x 12.5 in. The weight is about 2.5 pounds.

Please note that this is a handmade, vintage, previously utilized textile. It will exhibit phenomena commensurate with that origin and previous life...i.e. aberrations, fading, stains, etc... One's mileage may vary. In my opinion, that's what lends them their unique and mesmerizing quality.
