Karen ethnic hemp Hmong fabric handwoven neutral beige brown blush tribal textile boho cloth hand stitching unbleached KL50
The fabric has an exquisite silky-smooth hand-feel yet is very heavyweight, dense, and durable. And it smells like cinnamon. I cannot stress enough the elegance of this fabric. The photos do not do it justice.
This is a handmade fabric by the Karen or Karian ethnic group of Thailand and Burma. It is hand woven on a traditional back-strap loom with unbleached natural hemp and organic vegetable dyes for the blue and gray. Because of the narrow size of a back-strap loom (narrow to fit the size of the weavers back), the fabric width is correspondingly narrow and this shirt/tunic/fabric is constructed of two separate lengths of fabric, folded over at the shoulder of the garment and hand sewn together both on the sides and in the middle front and back. You may of course wear it as a tunic…or it can be re-purposed into cushions, bags, table runners, throws, etc...
The dimensions are 37 inches in length x 23 inches in width per side and without the fringe. The item is new but some anomalies and aberrations in handwoven, jungle village items are normal and should be expected. It weighs 18 ounces.
