Being handmade, some slight imperfections in the weaving and color are normal and to be expected in rural, village-woven, textiles. This is why we love handmade!\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eThe color is from organic, natural indigo dye with hand-painted batik resist dye designs:  a bird on a blooming cherry tree. The weaving has some lovely variation in thickness and the hand-feel is silky and feather-light.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003e......Speaking of silky, one might be mistaken that these sashes are made of silk due to the lightness and feel but, in fact, natural indigo can be a tricky choice for silk as the alkaline process can weaken the silk protein fibers (unlike cotton which is cellulose). This silk\/indigo combo is rarely found, if ever, in Southeast Asian textiles. I do know, however, it is used in some traditional Japanese Aizome textiles. They may have techniques giving more precise control.
