Indigo batik vintage handwoven hemp runner from Hmong ethnic group, sepia toned fabric runner tapestry Thailand tribal textile VB48

Beautiful handmade Hmong indigo batik textile with sepia toned highlights. This vintage fabric is of handwoven natural hemp whose original intent was at the bottom of a traditional Hmong skirt. The material is quite dense sturdy.

The front side of the fabric has the wonderful and mysterious graphic pattern made using the batik wax resist process. The wax for this pattern was applied with a light touch and because the hemp is quite dense, it therefore only effected the front side of the fabric.

Because the material was handwoven in a village environment, aberrations and anomalies in the weaving and the batik pattern are to be expected. It is not a machine-made object.

The dimensions are 182 inches long (15.5 feet) x 14 inches wide.

Location of the item is Chiang Mai, Thailand.
