Waxed tote or cross-body bag from hand woven Karen tribal textile and leather. Distressed and hand sewn, unique and original.
A distressed, painted, and waxed one of a kind hand bag called Misery Angels, made from an old hand woven Karen hill tribe shirt. First, I hand-sewed the fabric to make the bag shape, adding three horizontal pleats on each side. I lined it in an all-cotton lining with a huge 12 inch wide x 9.5 inch tall, YKK brass zippered pocket on one side and a 2-section 10 inch wide open-top pocket on the other. The bag can be adjusted accordion style by cinching up the draw strings on both sides and the distressed vegetable tanned cowhide straps in the middle. The lateral drawstrings exit on the inside of the bag and on the ends I have attached some accessories, one on each drawstring end: a keyring, a small flashlight, a small carabiner, and an old good luck Thai coin. Some more info on the old good luck coin...It doubles as a small implement for unscrewing the posts fastening the braided leather handles to the bag. In this manner, you can change the straps from shoulder bag/handbag mode to adjustable cross-body mode. The fourth photo shows the bag in cross-body mode.
The top features a brass YKK zipper hand sewn to a soft distressed leather panel which is in turn hand sewn to the bag top.
Misery Angels completely open, with neither the center leather straps nor the lateral drawstrings cinched, is 22 inches wide by 19 inches tall. This is without the straps, just the woven fabric. Cinch the straps and it becomes considerable smaller. Weight is about 2 pounds.
