Indigo handwoven tribal tapestry ethnic home decor runner vegetable natural dye blanket ethnic boho bedspread, Laos Tai Lue textile NV37 Fascinating Tai Lue tribal of Laos handwoven and handmade textile with all natural vegetable dyed colors. Traditional Tai Lue symbolic motifs hand woven and embroidered in an explosion of geometric patterns and colors. This amazing and time consuming work of art has a dense and chunky embroidery with a rich hand feel. The weft, or thicker horizontal indigo/navy threads on which the supplementary weft designs were made are cotton, as are the designs. The warp or thinner darker vertical support threads, which are hidden, are polyester. Polyester is utilized for the warp to add strength to a textile, and to prevent shrinking and warping while cotton is used for its softness and touch against the body. In fact, it is only the cotton that comes into contact with the body as the polyester is buried in the thicker cotton yarn. I think of it as steel or concrete supports holding up a wooden house. The one piece woven textile has been cut into two sections and fashioned into a wrap skirt...the original and traditional intention for these textiles. The two vertical seams can be removed if desired and the textile re-purposed. The last two photos show the front and bacjk of the skirt which are almost identical. The condition is new. It was created by a Tai Lue women's weaving group, consisting of Tai Lue woman in their 60s, 70s, and 80s, in Thailand on the Thai/Laos border. I purchased it directly from the weavers. The dimensions of each side of the skirt are 35.5 in x 31.5 in. Meaning that taking out the seams you would have two nearly identical textiles 35.5 in x 31.5 in.
