Ayutupas buna Timor handwoven heavy cotton textile natural vegetable dye black gray brown blue cream red mauve ethnic tapestry ethnic tribal fabric Indonesian hill tribe home decor boho runner CD14

This is a man's blanket called an Ayutupas from Timor and the largest embroidered motif is of a gekko (this embroidery technique is called "buna"). It is handwoven cotton and colored with organic vegetable dye which lend it the soft and wonderful color palette, as opposed to chemical dyes which would be much brighter. The quality is superb and the hand weaving and embroidery tight.

It is made of three separate panels that are hand sewn together. The middle panel is the black color and includes 5 or 6 thin colored stripes on each side after which one can find the seam between the panels.

Note that the separate panels were sewn together a bit unevenly (as is commonly seen) which causes some slight skewing of the textile.

Total dimensions are 38 in. x 70 in. without the fringe. The fringe itself is 6 in. long.

This is a handwoven and hand embroidered textile. Please expect normal telltale signs of the human textile artist (aberrations in the weaving and embroidery)! Who wants perfect machine made anyway??
