Ikat Sumba boho tapestry Indonesian home decor tribal yellow dark red purple white blue cotton throw ethnic ikat cloth indigo blue handwoven cotton skirt sarong tapestry fabric CD42
This textile is formed by two back-strap-loomed narrow panels joined in the middle with a hand-sewn stitch. Note that the sewing connecting the two sections is quite loose and minimal, more of a baste stitch than anything else. If you intend to separate them than it's not a problem. Or hanging on a wall. But if you intend to handle the tapestry you might prefer me to run a better stitch up the middle...however it will be with a sewing machine. Note that the woven bands on each end slightly cinch the tapestry resulting in a slight narrowing at each end.
Ikat is a time intensive method of creating patterns on fabric by tying off the yarn prior to weaving and dyeing. When dipped in the color, the dye colors the yarn except for the part that is tied off, which remains the original color. When the yarns are woven, these areas create the pattern. Multiple color ikats require multiple tyings and dyeings. The technique is originally from Indonesia.
Some slight imperfections in the weaving and color are normal in these handmade textiles and to be expected.
The dimensions are 82 in x 37 in without the fringe. New condition.
